About the Role:

  • As a therapist at OSS, you will work with patients in an outpatient setting who have a variety of hand, wrist, elbow and upper extremity injuries. Evaluate and provide treatment for hand therapy patients. Develop and monitor plans of care based on physician orders and patient needs. Design exercise programs, activities and specialized equipment/splints for patients to return to prior level of function. Excellent communication and motivational skills are needed to help patients overcome their hand-related impairments. Direct communication is readily available with hand surgeon. Supervision of COTA and Hand Therapy Aides.

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • MS or MA Degree or higher in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy
  • Current Occupational or Physical Therapist license for CA
  • Certified Hand Therapist  preferred
  • PAMS and Advanced Practice in Hands Certifications required or pending approval
  • Orthopedics experience in an outpatient setting is highly preferred
  • 1+ years of Hand Therapy experience preferred

Skills Required:

  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19

  • Sound critical reasoning skills
  • Thorough knowledge of hand therapy principles and practices

Job Responsibilities: Duties will consist of, but not be limited to:

  • Perform thorough hand therapy evaluations according to state law and APTA guidelines
  • Establish a plan of care for hand therapy for patients
  • Provide EMR documentation in a timely manner to support treatment and treatment goals
  • Evaluate patient outcomes to determine effectiveness of treatments
  • Discharge patients appropriately and follow up with patients
  • Supervise hand therapy aide(s) and assistant(s)
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and care coordination meetings with Physical Therapists and Physicians
  • Assist in designing treatment protocols
  • Participate in in-services
  • Perform patient management tasks

Physical Requirements:

  • Walking distances are occasional and no greater than 50 yards, unless walking to or from the parking garage
  • Minimum phone usage; moderate computer usage
  • Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required.
  • Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service.
  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
